St Paul's Top and skirt |
|
St Paul's Cathedral has two layers of columns at the West Front. There are twelve lower columns and eight upper ones. The cathedral Sir Christopher Wren built in 1675 is the only one with a dome in this country – modelled on St. Peter’s in the Vatican. The view of the dome here is from Paternoster Square, with the face of the shepherd and one of the sheep from the Elizabeth Frink statue "Paternoster". The Cathedral itself is adorned with many statues, as is the mannequin, though the two statues hanging from the twisted aluminium bar necklace are actually the protagonists of Karin Jonzen's 1972 bronze. "Beyond Tomorrow" at the entrance to the north wing of the Guildhall. 365 feet above the ground, on top of its dome, St Paul's has its famous gold cross; for its part, the mannequin has a gold bowler hat, from the RSPCA shop on the Cally Road..
